Church At The Top Of A Hill
---------------------------
He was a reckless son-of-a-B
Should have known that I’d grow to be
A little like him
Yeah, a little like him
He was a pilot in the army
All the way back in 1918
After the war, he told his team
That he had an idea...
There was a church at the top of a hill
And I know he was looking for a thrill
Wanted to fly, wanted to show
That a plane could go between the two towers
They must have laughed at the silly idea
The guy is crazy, oh that much is clear
Said he could try but would never succeed
Oh how many times I’ve had that same said to me...
His friends said it couldn’t be done
That he would fail and end up killing someone
But my great-grandpa said: “Keep an eye on the time”
“Because at noon I’m gonna get what’s mine”
And the crowd of soldiers stood and stared
Some of them puzzled, some of them scared
When his plane appeared from behind the trees
Flew between the towers …vertically
---
And after all that’s said and done
Just go and have some fun, yeah
Don’t worry about tomorrow
'Cause it might never come
And if that’s all there is to this life we live
Forget and forgive
Yeah, don’t worry about tomorrow
'Cause it might never come
---
He was a reckless son-of-a-gun
But he sure knew how to have fun
Living the dream, chasing a high
Being the king, if just for a while
He used to play poker with his friends
All the chips just kept going in
The pot was two buildings in the middle of the city
And somehow he ended up winning
My family would be filthy rich
Had he not gone back the very next day
And lost it all
So we are still poor
Everyone around him thought he was insane
But to him, it all was just part of the game
Being alive, feeling the thrill
To him, THAT was the magic pill
Everyone still loved him, no matter what
Two dollars or two buildings in the pot
All of that will just get left behind
When the time comes for him to fly (away)
---
And after all that’s said and done
Just go and have some fun, yeah
Don’t worry about tomorrow
'Cause it might never come
And if that’s all there is to this life we live
Forget and forgive
Yeah, don’t worry about tomorrow
'Cause it might never come
